Sony Pictures' action-packed superhero film,Madame Web, is quickly approaching, marking the first female-ledSpider-Manspinoff when it swings into theaters next year, according toDeadline.
Dakota Johnsonstars in the titular role, a mutant who has psychic sensory powers that allow her to predict the future of other superheroes in the universe. Her character in the film is the protégé of the original Madame Web, born Cassandra Webb, in the comic books.
“It was a wild experience,” Johnson toldVarietyof filmingMadame Web. “I don’t think you can be prepped to go into anything like that, but I learned so much. It is a completely different way of making films.”
In the comic books, Web is a blind, elderly woman who suffers from myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder that forces her to use a life support system. She guides others rather than risking her own life in conflict.

Longtime television writer S.J. Clarkson cowrote and directedMadame Web. Outside of the anticipated superhero film, the British director is known for her work on 2017’sThe Defenders, 2006’sLife on Marsand 2015’sJessica Jones.
Clarkson’sMadame Webfeature is part of Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, joining the widely popular animatedSpider-Versetrilogy. “But, with her, it’s all psychological,” Clarkson toldComicbook.comof protagonist Cassandra.

It was announced that Johnson and Sweeney wouldcostar in the movieback in March 2022. Principle photography commenced that July and filming officially wrapped in January 2023.
Johnson was previouslyseen filming scenesin Boston during an August 2022 shoot for the movie. The actress was spotted wearing a New York City Fire Department paramedics uniform running towards an overturned vehicle on a highway in a video shared onTwitter.
Is there a trailer forMadame Web?
Sony Pictures released thefirst official trailerforMadame Webon Nov. 15, giving fans an action-packed preview of what to expect from the upcomingSpider-Manspinoff movie.
In the trailer, set toBillie Eilish’s hit song “bury a friend,” we meet Johnson’s Cassandra Webb as she attempts to protect a trio of teenagers (including Sweeney) from a masked villain who looks suspiciously like Spider-Man. When the villain stabs Cassandra with a knife, she is brought back to the beginning of the encounter.
The teenagers and Cassandra all realize they are connected to each other and that Ezekiel can see the future himself, as they try to prevent him from destroying a future in which the teens also seem to grow into spider-related superpowers.

Madame Webis slated to premiere on Valentine’s Day, swinging into theaters on Feb. 14, 2024.
