The alt rockers took the stage Tuesday night at the annual award show for a rousing rendition of their song “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” which updates theBilly Joelclassic of the same name with contemporary references.
The pop culture nods didn’t stop with the song’s lyrics either: The “Sugar, We’re Goin' Down” hitmakers wore blazers resemblingDavid Byrne of The Talking Heads' iconic, oversized suit that appears in the concert documentaryStop Making Sense.
Their performance marked their first at the VMAs since 2007.
